I swear, you can NOT do any better than the Manduka mat! And they really do last a lifetime. These mats do NOT wear. There as solid as the day you bought them. And the MOST amazing thing about them is that they get BETTER with age. They become stickier and more grippy. I LOVE them SO much that I have 3 of them and the 4th is on it's way to my home. I know, I know it's a bit indulgent for a yogi. BUT they are so awesome I can't get enough. I have my Purple ProLite for about 2-3 years now with no wear and so amazingly solid and grippy. Then I just bought the Orchid Prolite as I love bright colours and wanted a bright/uplifting version. Then I just bought the Black Beauty Pro Blackmat which is a lovely burgundy cause I just had to have the Black mat in a brighter colour! Call me superficial but I need brightness. The Black Mat Pro's are awesome! As there so solid and firm and sticky and are perfect for more vigorous yoga like Ashtanga and Power. I bring my Prolites to the studio (unless I'm doing Ashtanga) and use my Pro's at home when I'm doing Ashtanga. As you can tell I can't get enough of these mats. And I'll NEVER use any other or need to for that matter! : )
